Thank you for signing up to be part of our Lenten Study of the Gospel of John. Pastors Jim and Loida and I are excited to spend the next few weeks reading the Gospel of John with you. Our goal is for you to develop a daily habit of reading and engaging with the Bible. We are excited to walk with you each day as you discover how God speaks through the Word.
On the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday, you will receive your first email (if you haven’t signed up to receive email click here). Each email will include a link to prayer, reading assignment, and some questions for you to consider. Also included in the email will be a “so what” take-away activity for you to complete during the day and a video with some thoughts on the text. The same content will be uploaded daily to this site. We hope you are as excited as we are to begin this study.
In the mean time you might want to do a few things to get ready for the study:
- Make sure you own a Bible. If you are new to reading the Bible I would encourage that you read from the NLT (New Living Translation). If you have been reading the Bible for a while I suggest that you read from the NRSV (New Revised Standard Version).
- You might want to use a Study Bible. I enjoy using The HarperCollins Study Bible (NRSV), the New Interpreter’s Study Bible (NRSV) or Life Application Study Bible (NLT)
- When you start the study, I recommend using a journal to write down your thoughts. You also might want to have some colored pens on hand to underline or circle things in your Bible (special pens are sold for writing in Bibles with thin pages).
If you have any questions or concerns about our upcoming study, please feel free to contact me. I am also more than happy to help you choose a Bible. You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org
